Previously, the name of this city was Telmessos. Even then, this area was known for its beautiful nature. Fethiye is on a whimsical bay with forests of pine trees that descend gently into the sea. In this city St. Nicholas was born.
The Fethiye town owes its fame to the Lycian rockgraves above the town. The graves date from the 4th to 6th century before Christ. The Lycian people believed that bird demons carried the dead to the sky. In order to lighten their task the dead were never buried in the earth but in sarcophagi or graves with temple portals in the rocks. From the old city Telmessos only this city of dead has remained. Here one can admire unique Lycian sarcophagus.

The climatic conditions are the cultivation of vegetables and fruit is also growing. Souvenir shops are around the Turkish bath and the ancient mosque. Butterfly Valley is a beautiful day trip from Lüdeniz beach. It is the domicile of the unique Jersey Tiger butterfly. This valley is an interesting deep ravine with cliffs up to 350 metres high and a depth of 3-4 kilometres. In order to come in Butterfly Valley, you take the boat from Lüdeniz beach of Fethiye.
